An attempted robbery in daylight at Greenwich Park raises community safety concerns
At 10.59am on Sunday September 18th police were called out to Greenwich Park due to reports of men carrying out robberies.
A witness at the scene stated that the three men were allegedly all dressed in black clothing and were riding bikes and electric scooters around the park.
The men allegedly rode past the victim a few times, before one of them on a bike unsuccessfully attempted the robbery of a mobile phone.
A witness stated how they have gained trust issues around strangers since the incident.
They said.. “I have trusted people all my life, but now it feels like I can’t trust anyone.”
In a statement, a spokesman from the Met Press Office said: “Officers attended and carried out a search of the area. No victims or suspects were identified.”
Since the incident locals have taken to social media to express their concerns for rising crime in the area.
Latest statistics from police.uk reveals that robbery or theft from a person related crime, made up 17.3% of all crime in the area of Greenwich Peninsula in June 2022.
One Greenwich local demanded that nightly and early morning patrols of the park should be increased due to the criminal activity.
